Glaucoma Treatment in East Stroudsburg, PA
Glaucoma Treatment
Glaucoma is a progressive condition that can damage the eye’s optic nerve, potentially resulting in vision loss and blindness. If left untreated, damage to the optic nerve can cause irreversible vision loss. Although glaucoma is not curable, Pocono Eye Associates, Inc. provides ophthalmology services to help patients manage the disease and its symptoms medically, either with laser treatment or surgery.
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
Selective laser trabeculoplasty uses a neodymium: YAG laser to focus light energy on the internal drainage channel of the eye. SLT targets the pigmented (melanin-containing) cells in the trabecular meshwork using a very short application of light. Because SLT uses a low amount of energy, the surrounding tissue is not damaged. The treatment allows the drain to work more efficiently, successfully lowering eye pressure by approximately 30 percent with effectiveness generally lasting between one to five years, according to the Glaucoma Research Foundation.
Durysta
Durysta is a revolutionary treatment for glaucoma that can provide several months of intraocular pressure relief after one simple in-office treatment. Durysta may be an excellent option for those who may be unsuitable for glaucoma drop therapy and who wish to avoid more invasive incisional glaucoma surgery.
Filtration
When medication and laser methods fail to lower intraocular pressure, filtration surgery may be the best option. This conventional glaucoma surgery improves drainage by creating a flap in the outer layers of the eye. To begin, the doctor applies either topical or local anesthesia. When the eyes are numb, the doctor surgically creates the flap.
Medication
Medication is the mainstay of treating most types of glaucoma. Various types of eye drops are used to lower the eye’s pressure by helping better drain eye fluid and decreasing the amount of fluid produced by the eye. Other types of pharmaceutical medications are available for glaucoma treatment, including combination drugs designed for patients who need more than one medication, to relieve symptoms with as few side effects as possible.
Minimally (or Micro) Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)
MIGS includes several procedures which provide a very high safety profile and allow for a rapid recovery for patients. Our surgeons are trained in MIGS procedures such as trabecular meshwork bypass stenting (iStent) and trabecular meshwork excision (Kahook Dual Blade Goniotomy) which carries less risk than traditional glaucoma surgery and can be an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate glaucoma.
Laser Iridotomy
Some patients have a narrow drainage system, which puts them at risk for angle-closure glaucoma. Laser iridotomy is an in-office procedure that reduces the risk of angle-closure glaucoma. The doctor begins the procedure by applying drops that constrict the pupils and anesthetize the eyes. A contact lens is then inserted to help keep the eye open. Using a laser, the doctor creates a small opening in the upper part of the iris, below the eyelid, so that it is inconspicuous. The use of the laser allows the eye to heal more quickly than with non-laser surgical incisions.

Reviews
I had a traumatic injury to my eye and called to be seen on an emergency basis on a Friday despite that I wasn't an established client. The receptionist was kind and thorough. The office was clean, and the doctor and technical staff were very professional. There was very little wait-time on both my initial and follow-up visits. Highly recommended.
If I hadn't gone to them I'd still be wearing glasses. First ophthalmologist I saw didn't even tell me that there were toric implants that correct my astigmatism available for my cataract surgery. Thank goodness for Pocono Eye!
The service here was really great! The doctor was very cautious about dilating my eyes once he discovered I have narrow angles, which made me felt I was in good hands. Would highly recommend!
I have never had an issue here. I've been going numerous years now. Even when they did not accept my insurance I would come here. I have pressure issues with my eyes and they have been amazing with keeping it in check. The turn around with the nurses is high now but what matters to me is the Dr. I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Negvesky.
I have been going here for years. Both Dr. Young and Dr. Pyle are great. Very knowledgeable. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my eyes!
I came in to have my eye glases adjusted and a lense put back in place. They had everything done in 15 minutes, we're quick to serve, and very polite. They didn't even charge for anything! Very happy customer!
